The CBAM Registry opens to verifiers today

A concrete step in the definitive period's verification infrastructure: from 1 September 2026 the CBAM Registry is open to accredited verifiers. Verifiers must register within two months of accreditation (but not before 1 September); verification reports will be issued through the Registry from January 2027.

The CBAM Registry opens to verifiers today

CBAM’s verification infrastructure crossed a concrete threshold today: from 1 September 2026, the CBAM Registry is open to accredited verifiers.

The setup, per the Commission’s guidance for verifiers and national accreditation bodies published on 24 August:

  • Registration obligation: CBAM verifiers must register in the Registry within two months of receiving their accreditation — but not before 1 September 2026. That door opened today.
  • January 2027: verifiers begin issuing verification reports through the Registry — building the verification chain that leads to the first declaration deadline of 30 September 2027.
  • The Commission also published the procedure for accredited verifiers to obtain Registry access, and the division of roles between verifiers, accreditation bodies and competent authorities.

Our reading: for producers planning to declare with actual data, this is the bell — verifier capacity will start limited and calendars will fill as 2027 approaches. Getting installation data into the shape a verifier will read is the one way to get ahead of the queue. See our CBAM verification readiness service for the preparation side.
